Wow, that's all I can say. I caught the ends of both major games last night. The Texas A&M and Texas game was amazing with both sides hitting every clutch shot down the stretch. Basically it came down to Law IV against Durant. The best shot coming from Law in the end of regulation over Durant, who looked like he thought that Law had no chance of getting off a good shot against him, which rainbowed in. Its not a coincidence that Texas has been involved in the two best games this season, they have clutch freshman who have matured into quality players coming into March. With Durant, Augustin, and James Texas has the firepower to make some waves in the tourney. All I know is I don't want to be seeing them in UNC's bracket, because I never want to run into a player of Durant's caliber. Now for A&M, this team is poised for a run, with the clutch play provided by Law, those are the type of shots that can carry a team into April. I just hate it for A&M fans because their team played amazing into 2OT and still had a chance to pull it out. But a great win for Texas and I'm already looking forward to their battle on Sat with Kansas.
The other match up was between a streaking Maryland team and Duke. This rivalry has been one-sided as of late and it kept to that with Maryland taking down the Dukies again. With senior leadership and quality guard play from Vasquez, who was one rebound away from pulling a triple double, this Maryland team is easily playing the best out of any squad in the ACC. They now sit in 5th place in the ACC with a chance to move up depending on how some other teams play through the weekend. Maryland had already punched their ticket to the NCAA's but keep notching up their seeding with quality wins such as these, also this better get them ranked in the ESPN poll. Duke on the other hand was just exploited again on the perimeter, they have no way to keep opposing guards from slashing into the paint because their guards lack the quickness other teams have. Duke is now needing a win Sunday, against UNC, to end up 9-7 in the conference and avoid not having a winning record in the ACC since 95-96. As for Dukes tournament lives, well they should be fine against lower tier teams in the first round, but could have trouble with a difficult second round game if they face a team with superior guard play.
